The Scent of Cartoons

When we were little, early in the morning before even the sun was up, one of us kids (usually Ben) would wake up and proceed to wake up the other kids.  We'd creep into the family room in our footie PJs and park in front of the old TV (which we still have).  We'd make sure the volume knob was turned all the way down then turn it on.  To see snow.  Yup.  We woke up before the TV stations were even on air.  We hung out there through this until the colored lines and the beep came on.  I don't remember what we did exactly during this part.  Eat breakfast (cereal where sugar was not the first or second ingredient and reconstituted powdered milk)?  Then finally came the cartoons!  Blessed cartoons!  We watched He-Man, She-ra, The Incredible Hulk, Rainbow Brite, Woody Woodpecker, Spiderman, Pole Position, The Mighty Orbots, Smurfs, Q-bert, Snorks, Transformers, and on and on.  It was heavenly.

I remember one time, Ben came to get me, and I just didn't want to get up.  Rather than let me miss out on a morning of childhood bliss, Ben carried me out to the family room.  He couldn't have been more than 7.
